Between December 2013 and February 2014 Transdev Sydney, which operates and maintains Sydney Light Rail, will undertake critical testing of additional vehicles between Central and Lilyfield. This essential work is in preparation for the Inner West Light Rail Extension which will open in 2014.

As part of the Inner West Light Rail Extension, six new light rail vehicles and four lease vehicles will gradually be added to the existing light rail fleet. The four lease vehicles have since arrived in Sydney and as part of stage one of service preparations, they have undergone a program of exterior and interior refurbishment. Stage two of service preparations now involves a rigorous vehicle testing program, a requirement by the Office of the National Rail Safety Regulator (ONRSR).

Out of hours vehicle testing

Out of hours testing of the four lease vehicles will commence on Monday 2 December and will continue until the end of February. The testing is scheduled to take place between Central and Lilyfield from 11.30pm until 5.00am, seven days a week during this time. Residents and businesses between John Street Square and Lilyfield light rail stops will be impacted by the out of hours testing. Noise Impacted residents and businesses can expect to hear noise levels associated with light rail vehicle operations during this time.
